Clan Anderson DNA Project

Discover DNA Matches

Our Clan Anderson genealogist has set up a DNA Project exclusively for Clan Anderson members. This project is not limited to those with the last name "Anderson." It's designed to help all our members discover DNA matches within our group and across the broader GEDmatch community.

GEDmatch enables DNA comparisons and matches from various DNA testing sources. So, whether you've tested with Ancestry, 23andMe, or any other service (and uploaded your data to GEDmatch), you'll receive comparisons and reports related to your DNA. Having our dedicated DNA Project will streamline our family searches.

Your RAW DNA data uploaded to GEDmatch, following the instructions below, is solely used to match you with other individuals. Rest assured, no third party or person has access to your RAW data, ensuring the confidentiality of your genetic traits.

However, there's a possibility that certain genetic traits could be inferred. For instance, if you have a trait typically found in individuals of a specific gender and race, and you're a close match with someone, it might be inferred that they share the same trait.

How to Join the DNA Project

  • Create a GEDmatch Account: I encourage all CAS members to sign up for the Anderson DNA project on GEDmatch.com. GEDmatch is a free website that allows you to upload your DNA results from any testing site and compare them with other users. We have established our own ancestor project to assist everyone in their genealogical research.

  • Participation Steps:

    • Create a free account on the GEDmatch site.

    • Upload your DNA results from the testing site you've used.

    • Follow the instructions in the PDF file provided via the link below.

  • Once you've completed the upload on GEDmatch, please submit your DNA Kit ID.

  • Submit Your DNA Kit ID: Fill out the form provided via the link below. This will allow you to send your kit number to our DNA Project manager, who will notify you when you've been added to our DNA Project.

  • As a side note, GEDmatch also offers the option to create a family tree, either manually or by uploading your gedcom file from other ancestry sites. While this service is free, there is also a paid tier available for those interested.

  1. Here are you step-by-step instructions for signing up and uploading data to GEDmatch (PDF link).

  2. Fill out this DNA Project Kit Number Submission form to submit your DNA Kit ID to our genealogist.

We're thrilled to embark on this DNA journey with you. The Clan Anderson DNA Project on GEDmatch promises to enhance our understanding of our shared heritage. If you have any questions or need assistance along the way, please feel free to reach out.
